Call to action
This year the theme of ICOM’s International Museum Day (IMD) on 18 May 2021 is The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine. As we all look forward to welcoming the news of lifting restrictions next month it seems timely for the museum community to use IMD to help promote the re-opening of our much-loved institutions.
With this in mind we are inviting all members and their institutions to submit a short video (no more than 3 mins) encouraging visitors to return to their museums or galleries. The video can be made on a mobile phone, iPad etc and does not have to be made by a professional – hand-held videos are welcome. The purpose is to highlight what your museum or gallery has to offer be it new exhibitions and displays, education programmes or bringing communities together. This short video would ideally be made specifically to promote International Museum Day and the much-anticipated re-opening of museums in May 2021.
The videos will be uploaded to the ICOM Ireland website to a dedicated page and promoted through the press and social media.
Note: We cannot upload a video directly to our website, however the software supports embedding videos from YouTube and Vimeo or similar platforms.
We simply need you to send us the link along with a few sentences promoting your museum (max 150 words) to secretary@icomireland.com by Friday 7 May.
Remember: There are grants available to assist with organising any events you are planning to celebrate International Museum Day in 2021 – details on how to apply are here.
We wish you every success with the re-opening of your institution and best wishes for a successful International Museum Day.
Yours,
Dr. Margarita Cappock
Chair – ICOM Ireland
