International Museum Day 2020

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown the focus for this year was on digital activities promoting the values of International Museum Day (IMD) while ensuring the safety of the public and staff alike. The membership was emailed details on this year's theme Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion and how to get involved. Members were asked to share their activities with the Committee and to tag the events with #IMD2020 and #Museums4Equality.

The Local Authority Museums Network (LAMN) were pro-active in marketing and succeeded in getting a small piece on IMD and their planned activities in the Daily Star (14 May). The National Gallery of Ireland remains a strong supporter and helped to build awareness by jointly promoting it alongside National Drawing Day (16 May). A number of events were held online and there was a strong presence on social media among Irish institutions. Members and Institutions will be sent a feedback form and a report collating activities will be prepared for ICOM Ireland’s AGM, which will help capture the unique responses taken by Irish museums.

Thanks are extended to all who got involved.
